Accessing Your Kayenta Community School E-Mail
Why the change? The schools Internet web server was not secure enough. Since it also contained other information OIEP/BIA wanted the web site on a different server which is not currently set-up to allow access to our E-mail system.
You can use a program such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, or Mozilla Thunderbird.
Try these directions – go slow – you can do it. Problems? - Try calling at school or email me.
Set-up in Outlook Express and Thunderbird are very similar
Microsoft Outlook - Do not type the “” in the instructions
Open Outlook
Click on “Tools”
Click on “E-mail Accounts”
Click on “Add a new e-mail account”, then “Next”
Click on “POP3”, then “Next”
In user information:
Your Name: Type your name (Full Name, Nick Name, etc.)
E-mail Address: Type your KCS email address or your frontier or citlink if you like
In Logon Information:
User Name: this is the first part of your e-mail name before the @ sign
For instance mine would be “jcoleman”
Password: the password you use at school or when you accessed your email from the web server before
Remember password: Check or uncheck the box
Server Information:
Incoming mail server (POP3): “mail.kcs.bia.edu”
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): “smtp.frontiernet.net” or “smtp.citlink.net” (this depends on what your “HOME” email address ends with after the @ sign. Use the one that fits that.
Test Settings: Click on the button to see if it works
If it works OK you only have one more thing to do.
If you want to keep a copy of your school email on the computer (server) at school click on the “More Settings” button, a box should pop up.
Click on the “Advanced” tab
Put a check mark in the box “Leave a copy of messages on the server”
Click “OK”, “Next”, “Finished”
Click on the “Send/Receive” button at the top of “Outlook” and it should retrieve your mail from the school server.
NOTE: If you don't do #10 your mail will be downloaded onto the computer you set this up on and will not be on the schools server anymore. Another words, when you come back to school and check your mail it will not be in “Outlook”. If you want a copy of it back at school you will have to “Forward” it back to your school email account.
